Child Safety at BTBC
At Bulleen Templestowe Basketball Club, every child has the right to feel safe and supported. Their welfare is our top priority, and we strive to create a child-friendly environment.
We have a zero-tolerance policy for child abuse and treat all concerns seriously and confidentially, with dedicated Child Wellbeing and Safety Advisors. Our recruitment practices ensure all staff and volunteers are suitable to work with children.
We provide safe environments and support the inclusion of all children, respecting the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth, those from diverse backgrounds, children with disabilities, and LGBTIQ individuals. We empower children to understand their rights and encourage their voices in club matters.

BTBC Child Safety Reporting Process
Any child safety concerns, including:
- disclosure of abuse or harm
- allegation, suspicion or observation
- breach of Code of Conduct
- environmental safety issues.
Face-to-face verbal report, letter, email, telephone call, meeting
Child Safety Person, manager, supervisor
The Child Safety Person, manager or supervisor will:
- offer support to the child, the parents, the person who reports and the accused staff member or volunteer
- initiate internal processes to ensure the safety of the child, clarify the nature of the complaint and commence disciplinary process (if required)
- decide, in accordance with legal requirements and duty of care, whether the matter should/must be reported to the police or Child Protection and make report as soon as possible if required.
