Meet our BigV coaching line up for 2021

Championship Women – Michael Brookens

The Bulleen Boomers are excited to announce that Michael Brookens is our Championship Women Head Coach for the upcoming season.  Michael comes to us with over 30 years of experience coaching women’s basketball and we believe he will be a valuable asset to the Club.  He was previously the Director of Coaching at Dandenong and he’s just come off a championship season coaching the Victorian Youth Championship Women.  Michael will be assisted by our own Kate Gaze who will also continue on as a squad member in 2021.  We welcome Michael to the Boomers family and look forward to see what he brings to the program in 2021 and beyond.

Youth League One Women – Michelle Gubbels

The Bulleen Templestowe Basketball Club is excited to announce the appointment of Michelle Gubbels as Head Coach of our Youth League One Women’s squad.  Michelle comes to us having been assistant coach of the Nunawading Spectres NBL1 team working alongside Paul Flynn.  You may have also seen Michelle commentating livestreamed home games for the WNBL Deakin Melbourne Boomers and Southside Flyers.  Michelle is a Director of Triple Threat Sport and also a Yoga / Pilates teacher. She has extensive playing experience at both National and State levels.  Upon hearing of her appointment, Michelle said that she was extremely excited at the opportunity and couldn’t wait to get in touch with the girls and get moving.  Please join us in welcoming Michelle to the Boomers Family and we look forward to seeing her on court with the girls.

Division One Men – Taylor Culpepper

The Bulleen Boomers are excited to announce that Taylor Culpepper is our Division One Men Head Coach for the upcoming season.  Taylor comes to us with over 5 years of experience coaching at the elite level having had a season as Assistant Coach for our BigV D1M in 2019/2020, Assistant Coach in our Junior Championship program and previously as an Assistant Coach with the Melbourne Tigers U16s.  We believe he will continue to be a valuable asset to the Club.
We have some exciting AC plans in place so watch this space.  We welcome Taylor in his new role in the Boomers family and look forward to see what he brings to the program in 2021 and beyond.

Victorian Youth Championship Men – Rodrigo Torres

We are delighted to have Rodrigo Torres stay on from a successful 2019 season which saw our senior men make finals.  Of course he was due to coach the men in 2020 but that all changed.  Rodrigo has now moved to the Youth Men to continue a desire to develop.  Rodrigo initially came to us from the Melbourne Tigers bringing his extensive, almost decade long coaching experience, from both locally and overseas, to the Boomers.  He has held positions including NITP Development Coach and Australian Junior Maccabi coach.  It’s sensational to have Rodrigo back in a new role for 2021 and beyond.
