The Bulleen Boomers Basketball Club is excited to announce the Coaching line up for the 2023 BIG V Season.

The first appointment is Mason Rogers as Head Coach of the Bulleen Boomers Bendigo Bank State Champ Women.

Mason comes to Bulleen with an exceptional Coaching Resume including Assistant Coach for the Townsville Fire WNBL program, Head Coach of Dandenong NBL1 Women’s team for the past 2 years as well as numerous Big V Head coaching positions.

When asked about the appointment of Mason, departing SCW Coach and BTBC Director of Coaching Talent Development, Michael Brookens stated he was excited that Bulleen has been able to secure Mason to replace him and has complete faith that he has the skills, background and Basketball IQ to push our SCW to the next level.

Mason shared his thoughts on returning to the Boomers after a number of years away refining his coaching skillset. ‘I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to coach the Bulleen Boomers’ Championship Women for the 2023 Big V season. Having played at Bulleen as a junior and coached in the VJBL girls and Big V Youth League women’s programs, I have a strong connection to the club and am excited to return.

“Mike Brookens has done a phenomenal job the past two seasons developing a high performance culture and I am excited to build on his efforts.”

“Bulleen has a proud history of progressing its junior athletes to the elite level and I’m looking forward to working with our Youth League Women and VJBL program to further build the pathway for our female athletes.”

Heading up our Division One Men for 2023 is another familiar face to Bulleen in Mark Whitehead.

Mark is a former Boomers State Champ Men’s player who has a long and impressive playing and coaching resume that includes stints in the NBL, NBL1(SEABL) BIG V and contracts in Finland and France.

We are excited to have Mark take the reins of our Bendigo Bank Division One Men’s Team, outlines Brookens. He comes into a team that will go through a strong rebuild in 2023 with the goal to make it back into SCM in 2024. Lots of work to be done and we believe we have the right man to do it.

Speaking with Mark, he expressed his appreciation for being selected as the new Head Coach and can’t wait to get started with the Boomers. Having enjoyed his time as a player he looks forward to the opportunity to lead the Senior Men to a successful 2023 BIG V Season.

The next appointment is as part of our Coaching Development pathway within the Boomers program. The iAthletic Youth Men will be lead in 2023 by one of our experienced Junior Championship Coaches, Alex Wilson.

As a career coach, running his successful Locked In Basketball Academy, Alex has considerable experience assisting athletes to push to the next level. He brings with him NBL1 Asst coaching exposure as well as many years of VJBL coaching experience.

Coming off a challenging 2022 BIG V season our Youth Men have a big season ahead and Alex is excited to get on the training track early to make a huge push in 2023.

The Final appointment for the 2023 season is the Head Coach of our iAthletic Youth Women, Caitlin Bryan.

After a fantastic 2022 BIG V season, departing Youth Women’s Head Coach Jack Moloney, who despite winning multiple Big V Coach of the Month Awards, has decided to focus heavily on Junior Championship in 2023.

The Youth Women played exceptionally well especially as the average age was only 16.5yrs. When asked about the opportunity to coach such a talented young team Caitlin replied, “I feel very privileged and excited to have been given the opportunity to coach the Youth League women. Bulleen is such a strong club for both junior and seniors pathways, and I am very much looking forward to working with all players to help foster the next generation of talent at the Boomers.”

In closing Michael Brookens expressed how excited he is for season 2023, the young talent we have at the club and this new group of experienced coaches is going to make for a fantastic season in 2023.

Please join us in welcoming each of our new BIG V Head Coaches to the Bulleen family. We look forward to seeing them on court and working closely with them to further enhance the fantastic pathways we are cultivating for our Bulleen Boomers athletes.

Big V Tryouts will be advertised in the coming weeks.
