Our Standards

The expectation is that all Bulleen Boomers members have an enjoyable experience whenever they participate in our competitions

This includes Players, Coaches, Parents and Referees

The following standards will help us provide the best level of service to basketball

Junior Domestic:  Bulleen Primary School (midweek) and EDJBA (Saturday) Competitions

  • Game schedules commence on time
  • Referees prepare the game (players, scoring system, match ball, etc) prior to starting the game clock
  • A referee’s uniform is
    • black *basketball shorts or black trousers
    • referee shirt (tucked in)
    • *white shoes and socks with basketball shorts only
    • black shoes and black socks
    • Basketball Australia Jacket or approved Bulleen Referee Jacket only
    • skins not visible may be worn under a referee’s shirt

Senior Domestic:  Bulleen Mens; Womens and Mixed Competitions (midweek)

  • Game schedules commence on time
  • Referees prepare the game (players, scoring system, match ball, etc.) prior to starting the game clock
  • A referee’s uniform is
    • black *basketball shorts or black trousers
    • referee shirt (tucked in)
    • *white shoes and socks with basketball shorts only
    • black shoes and black socks
    • Basketball Australia Jacket or approved Bulleen Referee Jacket only
    • skins not visible may be worn under a referee’s shirt

*basketball shorts with white shoes and socks during daylight savings specific period of time only

 

Junior Championship:  Friday Night VJBL

  • Game schedules commence on time
  • Full uniform – referee shirt, black trousers, black belt, black socks and black shoes
    • skins not visible may be worn under a referee uniform
  • Jackets are not permitted on VJBL matches
  • During time outs and intervals of play no person/s is permitted to shoot or use the court

 

Grade Progression

Referees will progress through a number of grades under the coaching and education of the Bulleen referee coaches and mentors

The referee grades:

  • Trainee (training with an assigned referee mentor)
  • Apprentice (officiating opposite an assigned referee mentor)
  • C Grade
  • B Grade
  • A Grade

There are opportunities for A Grade referees to be nominated to pathway onto state Junior Panel and Senior leagues to then pathway further onto National leagues

Referee Uniforms and Equipment

 

Referee shirts, whistles and lanyards can be purchased at the Bulleen Boomers uniform shop

Black trousers, black belt, black shoes and black basketball shorts can be purchased at local sporting or clothing stores
